I know it’s been a while since my last post, and there are several reasons for this including, but not limited to, the imminent growth of my family by one small person. The next playthrough report should be up within the next week, but until then I leave you with the narrative for The Council of Elrond. I know it is a bit of a read, and I’m not really expecting anyone to make it through the whole thing, no matter how many sittings they set aside for it. However this is my favourite part of The Fellowship of the Ring (book and film), and I wanted to do it justice. Feel free to skip it if you just want to stick to the core of the scenario’s narrative, but this really has been a labour of love for me and I’m glad I’ve put it together.

The members of the Fellowship were voted for on a Facebook poll, and while some characters were almost unanimously popular, the lower tiers were very tight.
Glorfindel and Aragorn are the clear winners and will be leading the Fellowship in their journey onwards. The next five were Gimli, Legolas, Boromir, Pippin and Merry. Given that it was Gandalf’s intervention that kept Pippin in the Fellowship, and the wizard is not in Rivendell, we will have to discard Pippin, promoting the twins Elladan and Elrohir into the pack. But this presents us with a problem; that of too many elves in the Fellowship. In addition, we now have a dearth of Lore heroes going forwards. Yes, Aragorn can be taken in his Lore iteration, but once we finish the ‘Road Darkens’ quests, he’ll be restricted to the Fellowship sphere. What I shall do then is to drop Legolas and swap out Boromir for Faramir. It was the younger brother who had the dream first, and his background and training as a Ranger would make him a natural fit into the Fellowship, and personally I am extremely keen on the idea of Boromir leading the Defense of Minas Tirith when the time comes.
So the line-up is as follows: Frodo, Sam, Merry, Glorfindel, Aragorn, Gimli, Elladan, Elrohir, Faramir. Let me know what you think. Should I have gone for different heroes? Should Grima have joined the Fellowship instead of Faramir? Will Merry eat all Gimli’s salted pork?
